Snowdonia National Park takes
its name from Snowdon, the highest peak in Wales and
England (3560ft) and the Welsh name for Snowdonia, 'Eryri'
which means 'Place of Eagles'.
Snowdonia has a history of industrial use for mining
slate, copper, and gold, and there are remains of this
activity everywhere, but it also served as a natural
fortress during the Middle Ages when the princes of
Wales used it as a refuge in their ongoing battles with
the English.
Snowdonia may be divided into four areas:The
northernmost area is the most popular with tourists, and
includes (from west to east) Moel Hebog, Mynydd Mawr and
the Nantlle Ridge; the Snowdon Massif; the Glyderau; and
the Carneddau.
The National Park has wonderful mountains, spectacular scenery and
beautiful beaches, so much to see so many places to
explore and is an ideal destination for Mountain Biking,
Skiing, Walking, Climbing or for just relaxing, taking
in the scenery and getting away from it all.
